While renovating the 64-year-old Lubbers Hall in 2006, Hope College asked Visual Entities to design multiple pieces of signage and wayfinding throughout the building that would keep the historic exterior of the building intact and properly express its art deco heritage, but also match the newly renovated and modernized interior space.
The Visual Entities design team worked with the interior designer’s aesthetic vision by incorporating their neutral chocolate and champagne color palette and metallic finishes within the system. The final solution was a group of modern, multilayered signs that integrated photos of the historic building and will allow for easy updating by the college. The elegant highlight of the system is a donor recognition wall—a custom-designed work of art, inspired by the origins of the building and complemented by the shiny, contemporary look of clear glass.
