In collaborating with the First Presbyterian Church of Kalamazoo, Visual Entities was challenged with creating wayfinding and signage that would suit both the elegant older sanctuary and the newer addition of the beautifully preserved historic building. Keeping the need to reflect the church’s intent in mind, the VE design team met this challenge by developing a modern sign system used in a very traditional way.
Simple graphic layouts and traditional typefaces combined with a neutral color palette provided readability and an understated look that fit in well with the church’s traditional environment. Small details like vintage directional arrows and sophisticated materials added the dash of modernism that the new addition embodied. Clean and simple lines with a few ornate touches blended seamlessly with the antique white stone and exquisite arches to create an appropriate solution to a unique design challenge.
